Description
Mid-Century Italian Coat Rack Renna
The Renna coat hanger by Bruce Tippet for Gavina (later produced by Knoll International) is a striking sculptural coat stand from the 1970s. Its vertical column with crescent-shaped hooks and tripod base makes it both functional and highly decorative. A collectible example of mid-century Italian design.
Elegant craftsmanship with sculptural presence
Constructed in lacquered timber with an internal metal structure, the design features curved hooks radiating from the column in graduated tiers. Its zoomorphic silhouette, inspired by reindeer antlers (Renna means reindeer in Italian), brings a sculptural energy to any space while serving as a practical storage piece for coats, hats, and bags.
Historical design context
Produced in Italy by Gavina and distributed by Knoll International after their acquisition, the Renna coat rack reflects the mid-century modern ethos a balance of utility, craftsmanship, and playful organic form.
