Description
Salif is a citrus squeezer designed by Philippe Starck for the Italian design company Alessi. The squeezer is a modern and sculptural interpretation of a classic kitchen tool that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Salif is made from cast aluminum and features a unique, asymmetrical design that resembles a small, sleek tower. The squeezer is intended to be both practical and beautiful, with Starck focusing on creating a design that is both ergonomic and visually striking.
The design of Salif allows for the squeezer to stand upright on its own, with the user simply placing a halved citrus fruit onto the top of the squeezer and pressing down. The juice is then funneled down through the grooves of the squeezer and out through the spout at the bottom.
Salif has won several design awards since its introduction in 1990 and is considered to be an icon of modern design. It is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and is widely available for purchase at design stores and online retailers.
